Songwriter's Story
Closer to Perfect
"Closer to Perfect" tells the story of a cowboy who has built his life around independence. He
is used to keeping women at arm's length, playing hard to get, and protecting his heart at all costs.
He does not need help, does not want to be tied down, and makes it clear that if anyone tries to
corral his heart, he will resist. Then everything changes when he meets a woman who does not
chase him with games, but simply offers him her heart. In that moment, he begins to see
something real in her - someone awesome, sweet, and smart - and for the first time he starts to
believe that love might actually have a chance to bloom.
As the song unfolds, the cowboy begins to realize just how deeply she has changed him. What
once felt like a guarded, lonely life now feels full of magic, warmth, and possibility. In the second
verse, he is on the edge of admitting how much he cares, and by the third verse he fully
understands that before her, his life was shallow and incomplete. Now he knows he loves her,
needs her, and cannot imagine losing her. "Closer to Perfect" is really about emotional surrender -
the journey from self-protection to vulnerability, and from standing alone to finding a love that
feels stronger, deeper, and closer to the kind of perfection he never thought he would find.

Lyrics
When we, first met, I played hard to get
Like all, the others, I kept my fair distance
I own, my pickup truck, don't need no assistance
Corral, my heart, I'll give you resistance
But you offered, me your heart
You're awesome, sweet, and smart
Now our love, has a chance to start
Flowing, growing, closer
Closer to perfect
You changed, my life, and turned me around
Every day, with you, is way beyond compare
Magic, as I watch, you just brush your hair
First time, in my life, close to saying I care
Getting closer, closer
But you offered me your heart
You're awesome sweet and smart
Now our love has a chance to start
Flowing, growing, closer
Closer to perfect
I use, to walk alone, shallow and incomplete
Couldn't bear; to lose you, I'd miss your heartbeat
I love, to hold your hand, on a scary stormy night
Need to feel, you tremble, when I hold you so tight
Getting closer closer
But you offered me your heart
You're awesome, sweet and smart
Now our love has a chance to start
Flowing, growing, closer
Closer to Perfect
