YOU TOOK ME FOR A RIDE

You Took Me For A Ride

***Songwriters Story***

The song opens with the chorus, where the singer lays it all out—he’s

been taken for a ride by someone he trusted. His one-time girlfriend

didn’t just walk away, she walked away with everything. She took the

money, left him with nothing, and disappeared without a trace. There’s a

mix of heartbreak and disbelief as he questions her betrayal, asking,

“Why’d you take the money, honey, and leave me hog-tied?” The hook sets

the tone: this isn’t just a breakup song, it’s about being blindsided by

greed and deception.

In the first verse, he reflects on how it all started with something

innocent—a lottery ticket they bought together, agreeing to split it

50/50 if luck ever came their way. Against all odds, they won, but

instead of sharing the fortune, she saw the winning numbers in the Town

Gazette and quietly cashed the ticket on her own. By the second verse,

the reality hits hard: she “cashed and dashed” with a two-million-dollar

payout, letting greed take over. Still, there’s a hint of poetic justice

in his voice as he predicts she’ll burn through the money and come back

around within a year, long after the damage is done.

You Took Me for a Ride

You took me for a ride

Lied to me, yeah you hurt my pride

You took all the loot

Left me alone to boot

Why’d you take the money honey

Leave me hog-tied

You took me for a ride

The lottery ticket we bought, supposed to be a 50/50 split

I put my trust in you, must have been a blind dimwit

Never dreamed we’d win, not very much of a chance

The winning number in the town gazette, ended our romance

You took me for a ride

Lied to me, yeah you hurt my pride

You took all the loot

Left me alone to boot

Why’d you take the money honey

Leave me hog-tied

You took me for a ride

You didn’t split the winnings; you just cashed and dashed

Your friends said you up and left, bad news travels fast

Two-million-dollar payout, greed made you disappear

You’re going to blow all that dough, be back within a year

You took me for a ride

Lied to me, yeah you hurt my pride

You took all the loot

Left me alone to boot

Why’d you take the money honey

Leave me hog-tied

You took me for a ride

(Instrumental)

You took me for a ride

Lied to me, yeah you hurt my pride

You took all the loot

Left me alone to boot

Why’d you take the money honey

Leave me hog-tied

You took me for a ride

Why’d you take the money honey

Leave me hog-tied

You took me for a ride

Sure enough did!
